The Headcrab
Headcrabs appear small in size, about the size of a basketball. They have a fleshy body, two short hind legs, two long claw-like appendages in the front, and a mouth on their underbelly. Headcrabs are Omnivores. It is unknown what their primary food source is on Xen, but on Earth they tend to seek out any meat that is near them, from humans to crows. Headcrabs will waddle on their four limbs for basic transportation. After locating a victim they will leap through the air in an attempt to reach their victims head. If the headcrab is successful in reaching their victim's head, they will latch on, rendering the victim unconscious and eventually robbing the victim of the capability of conscious thought, thus transforming them into a dangerous Zombie.
The Headcrab Zombie
A Zombie is created when a Headcrab latches onto the head of a human host. A poorly understood transformation follows, transforming the host's fingers into claws and splitting open their torso, revealing their internal organs.
The Zombie closely resembles its human host in height, though it commonly appears hunched, with its claws displayed in a threatening manner. The most distinctive feature of a Zombie is the Xenian parasite, the Headcrab, which remains latched over the victim's head. The victim of the transformation retains most of his or her clothing, though it appears torn or bloodied, perhaps from a previous struggle or as a result of the transformation. Despite the Zombie's grotesque appearance, it is a relatively simple enemy for the victim to deal with, as it mostly shambles slowly towards its prey. However, Zombies can be quite dangerous in close-quarters combat and also have the ability to 'bash' objects towards the victim.
Vortiguant
The Vortigaunt, Vort, or Alien Slave is a Xenian lifeform which serves as the primary soldier of the Xenian army. It is a brown humanoid creature with mottled skin, three arms, and 4 eyes. Vortigaunts are seen wearing "Slave Bracelets"; graphical evidence that they are being enslaved and controlled by the Nihilanth. Vortigaunts tend to attack in groups and also cooperate against enemy forces with Alien Grunts. When they're alone, or aren't being supervised by Alien Grunts or Controllers, they tend to try and hide from the enemy, rather than attacking head-on. Their main attack is a bolt of green lightning with a medium range. This attack has a small area-of-effect damage. Vortigaunts also have a melee attack for close-quarters combat, which simply consists of clawing the victim.
Bullsquid
Bullsquids are aggressive, bipedal, carnivorous aliens from the borderworld of Xen. They are sandy brown in coloration, with spots covering the top surface, and have tentacle-like protrusions surrounding their mouth. They also have two glossy eyes and a hooked tail, which is extremely damaging when whipped around. When attacking prey or an enemy, bullsquids will punt and tail-whip their target in close quarters, and spit a powerful toxin at a distance. They attack prey with a single-minded determination, and seem to only be motivated by their hunger and drive to kill for food. Inside the Black Mesa Research Facility they can often be found in or near radioactive materials.
Bullsquids will attack any nearby headcrabs and zombies.
